ICMS is seeking an experienced and highly capable Head of IT Operations to lead and manage our IT Operations function and ensure the delivery of secure, reliable, and high‑performing technology services across the organisation.

This is a senior, hands‑on leadership role based full‑time at our Manly Campus, with responsibility for the day‑to‑day operation, security, and continuous improvement of ICMS’s IT environment. The role requires availability outside normal business hours to support operational needs, critical incidents, and major changes.

About the Role

Reporting to senior leadership, the Head of IT Operations is accountable for executing the IT Operations business plan and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all IT systems and services.

You will lead the IT Operations and Support teams, oversee enterprise infrastructure across on‑premises and cloud environments, and ensure the technology platforms supporting teaching, learning, and business operations are robust, secure, and fit for purpose. The role includes ownership of cyber security controls, backup and recovery, vendor management, operational documentation, and IT service performance.

While primarily a leadership role, this position also acts as a senior technical escalation point and ensures continuity of frontline IT Support services, including providing hands‑on support when required during staff absences or critical operational incidents.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the IT Operations and Support teams to deliver reliable, secure, and effective IT services
• Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all IT systems and information
• Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of on‑premises and cloud‑based infrastructure
• Manage enterprise networks, identity services, storage and compute platforms, and collaboration technologies
• Oversee IT‑enabled teaching and learning environments across campuses and classrooms
• Develop, implement, and maintain cyber security controls, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity capabilities
• Lead the response to major IT incidents, outages, and security events
• Manage IT suppliers, vendors, and contractors, including service performance and cost control
• Support and deliver IT‑related projects and technology modernisation initiatives
• Ensure accurate documentation, operational reporting, and effective IT training for stakeholders
• Provide senior technical oversight and frontline IT Support coverage when required

About You

You are a seasoned IT Operations leader with a strong service‑delivery mindset and the ability to balance strategic oversight with operational accountability. You are comfortable leading teams, managing vendors, and acting as a calm, capable escalation point during incidents, while also driving continual improvement across IT operations.

Relevant Experience and Attributes

• Leadership experience in IT Operations, Service Delivery, or Technology Operations
• Strong background in IT service management (incident, problem, change, and service request management)
• Proven experience leading operational incidents, outages, or security events
• Experience delivering operational and technology projects on time and to scope
• Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 environments, including tenant administration and service integration
• Practical experience with Active Directory and identity‑related operational processes
• Experience developing and maintaining operational documentation, runbooks, and procedures
• Involvement in disaster recovery planning, business continuity, or operational risk management
• Proven experience managing third‑party vendors and service providers
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical issues into business outcomes
• Experience leading and developing IT Operations and Support teams
• Demonstrated capability in budget planning, cost control, and operational forecasting
• Experience contributing to the modernisation of IT environments to improve reliability, security, and efficiency
• Broad understanding of enterprise IT environments without the need for deep infrastructure engineering specialisation
