Job Description

The Role

ICMS offers a suite of contemporary undergraduate and postgraduate IT courses, including the specialisation in Cyber Security and Big Data and Analytics. These courses are designed to equip students with advanced technical, analytical, professional, and industry-relevant capabilities across areas such as IT consulting, cyber security, artificial intelligence, data analytics, cloud technologies, business intelligence, and emerging digital technologies.

ICMS is seeking applications for Sessional Lecturer positions in Information Technology. Successful candidates will contribute to teaching, curriculum development, assessment, student support, and academic quality assurance across the BIT, MIT, and their specialisations courses.

The successful candidates will play an important role in delivering high-quality, industry-aligned learning experiences and supporting students to develop the knowledge and professional skills required for contemporary IT practice.

Key Responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing, coordinating, and delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, and practical classes.
  • Ensuring learning materials, teaching methods, and assessments align with subject and course learning outcomes.
  • Designing, marking, and moderating assessments, and providing timely and constructive student feedback.
  • Contributing to subject coordination, curriculum review, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Supporting students’ academic progress through effective communication, consultation, and referral to appropriate support services where required.
  • Monitoring student engagement, attendance, progression, and feedback.
  • Participating in academic meetings, moderation processes, results finalisation, and Board of Examiners reporting.
  • Maintaining disciplinary currency through scholarly activity, professional engagement, or applied industry practice.
  • Supporting compliance with ICMS academic policies, procedures, quality assurance requirements, and academic integrity standards.
  • Contributing to a respectful, inclusive, culturally diverse, and supportive learning environment.

Essential Selection Criteria

Applicants should demonstrate:

  1. A doctoral qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Data Science, Big Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related discipline.
  2. Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality teaching in a tertiary education environment.
  3. Expertise in one or more relevant IT areas, particularly Cyber Security, Big Data and Analytics, AI/ML, Data Science, or related fields.
  4. Experience in subject coordination, curriculum design, assessment development, and learning outcome alignment.
  5. Demonstrated capacity to teach effectively in face-to-face, blended, and online learning environments.
  6. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  7. Ability to support students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
  8. Strong digital capability, including experience with learning management systems and educational technologies.
  9. Commitment to academic integrity, ethical practice, and quality education.
  10. Australian work rights.

Desirable Criteria
The following will be highly regarded:

  • Relevant industry experience in IT, cyber security, big data analytics, data science, or related areas.
  • Membership or engagement with a relevant professional body, such as the Australian Computer Society.
  • Formal qualifications in tertiary teaching or higher education.
  • Experience supervising postgraduate projects, capstones, consulting projects, or work-integrated learning.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity, applied research, industry engagement, or professional practice.
